Curbless Shower Installation

A curbless shower is a design and build decision, not just an accessibility feature — a flush, step-free entry that reads as one continuous floor from the bathroom into the shower. Getting the floor to disappear like that means recessing the substrate below the surrounding subfloor, sloping it precisely to a linear drain, and waterproofing every plane of that recess before a single tile goes down. The joist direction and depth decide what is possible, which is why we work that out on the first visit rather than after demolition.

What's included

Curbless Showers

  • Structural floor recess built and sloped to a linear drain
  • Joist depth and direction assessed before the design is committed
  • Flush, zero-threshold entry with no curb or lip to step over
  • Waterproofing carried across the recessed pan and out onto the bathroom floor
  • Frameless glass and large-format tile keeping the transition line clean

How it works

Our curbless showers process

The right choice for homeowners who want a flush, step-free entry that reads as one continuous floor — whether for accessibility, for a larger-looking bathroom, or simply because the line is cleaner.

  1. 1

    Floor Structure & Drain Plan

This comes first because it decides whether the design is possible at all. Joist depth and direction determine how much the substrate can be recessed and where a linear drain can run, so we work it out on the first visit rather than after demolition.

  2. 2

    Recess & Waterproof

The floor is recessed below the surrounding subfloor and sloped precisely to the drain, then waterproofed across every plane of that recess and outward onto the bathroom floor beyond the opening.

  3. 3

    Tile

Large-format tile keeps grout lines minimal across the transition, which is what makes the floor read as continuous. The slope has to be held accurately through the tile, not just the substrate underneath it.

  4. 4

    Glass & Finish

Frameless panels are sized to keep the sightline open, then sealed and cleaned. We check drainage under real flow before handing it over.

Good to know

Curbless Showers questions

Without a curb, does water actually stay in the shower?
Yes, when the slope and drain are right. Water follows the pitch to the drain rather than being held back by a lip, which is why the floor structure work matters so much. Waterproofing extends past the opening to handle overspray, and a glass panel plus sensible head placement reduce how much reaches the edge at all.
Does a curbless shower affect resale value?
It generally reads as a premium, current design choice rather than a medical modification, and it happens to suit buyers planning to stay in a home long term. We would not promise a specific return — that depends on the whole house and the market at the time — but it is not a feature that narrows your buyer pool the way some accessibility retrofits can.
Can any bathroom be converted to curbless, or does it depend on the floor?
It depends on the floor. There has to be room to recess the substrate below the surrounding level, which is governed by joist depth and direction and by what is already running through that bay. Some rooms allow it easily, some need the drain relocated, and occasionally a low-threshold entry is the honest answer instead. We determine which before committing to the design.
